Welcome to the Lazy Bones website
Each cruising season we endeavor to post short logs on what we see along our journey, and when the internet permits, post the photos that accompany the logs. Feel free to track our journey and send comments if you choose. Look at the Gallery, new photos from this year! Jeff & Gayle ![]() Thursday 27 December 2007

Kia Ora! Holiday Greetings from Whangarei, New Zealand. Our last update had us arriving from Fiji into Opua, New Zealand, on November 20th. It had been a bit of a rough trip, as we had followed Jimmy Cornell's advice and went west first instead of sailing directly along the rhumb line. As a result, we had 6 days of beating to weather, which is the appropriate term for what we experienced. It is the first time in many years that we have had to do this, and we had screws and bolts falling from the top of the mast and leaks where we have never seen water before. Kia Ora! Greetings from Opua, New Zealand. This is our final update for Fiji. Our last update had us leaving Matangi at 4PM on October 11th for our overnight passage to the Lau Group, arriving at Vanua Balavu in the Lau Group the morning of the 12th. The Lau Group of Fiji stretches quite far and is half way between Tonga and Fiji. It would be ideal to sail to the Lau from Tonga, but Fiji requires that a yacht check into one of four designated ports in Fiji before visiting any part of Fiji, including the Lau Group. For this reason many boats do not visit the Lau Group, as it usually requires a beat back to weather to get there. Add to this that the Lau Group requires special permission to be visited as well, unlike other islands in Fiji. [ Read the rest ... ] Sunday 28 October 2007

Bula! Greetings from Matangi, Fiji. Our last update had us leaving Savusavu on September 26th for Viani Bay on the south east corner of Vanua Levu. We had a great sail half way there and then it began to rain. It was raining so hard that we questioned whether we should proceed to Viani Bay or just tuck into Fawn Harbor, which was much closer. We decided to stick it out. We had Curly's waypoints, and as long they were accurate, we felt we would be okay. On the way, we caught a nice mahimahi using one of Gayle's potato chip bag lures, but it jumped out of the water and managed to snap the leader. So long, dinner! [ Read the rest ... ] Go to page >>
